Marlon Martinez, who’s accused of strangling popular UCI and UC Riverside professor Lindon Barrett, made a brief appearance today in Superior Court in Long Beach.

Marlon Martinez, charged with murder of Lindon BarrettBarrett, made a brief appearance in Long Beach Superior Court today, one of several upcoming pretrial hearings. Wearing a blue county inmate jumpsuit and handcuffs, Martinez remained behind a metal gate during the hearing. He previously pleaded not guilty to the crime.
Martinez has been held without bail since July, when police say they found him with Barrett’s car after the English and Black Studies professor was found dead in his downtown Long Beach loft. An autopsy found he had been strangled, and had a small amount of alcohol and marijuana in his system.
