Fast food giveth, mostly unwanted poundage, but in this case scholarships for college. Here’s info from City News Service.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Applications will be accepted through the end of the month for the 10th annual Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders’ Scholarship program, it was announced today.
Sixty high school seniors or graduates up to 21 years old will be chosen to receive a $1,000 scholarship to the two- or four-year college or vocational school of their choice.
Applications — available online at www.carlsjr.com/promotions — are being accepted only during the month of January. Carl’s Jr.’s founder died on Jan. 11 last year at age 90, “so it’s fitting for the applications to be accepted during this month as a tribute to his life,” according to a company statement.
Carpenteria-based Carl’s Jr. has granted more than $400,000 in scholarship monies since the inception of its scholarship program in 1999.
Scholarship winners will be selected based on their academic record, school and community leadership and participation, work experience and future goals. Financial need and other family circumstances will also be considered.
Applicants must be high school seniors or recent graduates planning to enroll for the first time at an accredited two- or four-year college or vocational school. Applicants must also be a resident of the states in which Carl’s Jr. operates restaurants: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah or Washington state.
