Coastline College employee Michelle Ma couldn’t resist sending us this photo of what Orange County’s
John Wayne Airport looked like at noon on Thanksgiving.
Gee, seems like a lot of folks decided to stay home this year, what with the high ticket prices and being broke and all.
At my house, my brother and his family were supposed to come visit from Utah, but decided not to come after half of his company got laid off.
Here’s Michelle’s note:
“I wanted to send you these shocking photos of John Wayne on Thanksgiving day…. The first one is of my husband (Bernard Ma of Yorba Linda) as we checked in for our EMPTY flight. Airport staff said it has been like this all day!”
A reader posted this as well:
“The TSA reported for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving:
Of the top 40 U.S. airports, the biggest decreases in passenger volume on Wednesday were at Honolulu International Airport (35 percent); John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA (32 percent); Tampa International Airport (27 percent) and Newark International Airport (22 percent).

People don’t travel on the actual holiday. It’’s the two days before Thanksgiving that people travel. Need photos of Tuesday night and Wednesday. I’m sure they would tell a different story!
What was Friday like?

That’s not what it looked like Turkey-day morning - at the 7:00 AM crank-it-up.
