Intruders hack into UCI Jewish student website

October 14th, 2008, 4:19 pm · 4 Comments · posted by Marla Jo Fisher, Staff Writer

Someone has hacked into the Internet home page for Anteaters for Israel, the pro-Israel support group at UC Irvine that encourages interest in Israeli culture and current events.

This blog site would not allow a link to the site, perhaps because it was hacked, but people can find it at AnteatersforIsrael.com.

The hacked home page shows “HACKED” in large letters, with a devil on it, and  lists “devilchild” as the source.  Choral music that could not immediately be identified can be heard in the background.

Because the server does not belong to UCI and is not maintained by UCI, officials there said they took a police report and will investigate, but have no jurisdiction in any criminal case.

Anteaters for Israel President Isaac Yerushalmi was not immediately available for comment.

UCI Dean of Students Sally Peterson said that the location of the hacking had been identified as the Netherlands, but students here suspect a more local angle.

Tensions have run high for years between Jewish and Muslim students over the Palestinian question in Israel.

UCI police chief Paul Henisey said he had a police report from Sept. 4th.

UCI Professor Mark LeVine, who studies the Middle East, listened to the message left by the hackers and said, though it was hard to hear, it sounded like it was about Muhammad being prophet and God being the Lord.

    Who cares?

Why does it matter if the a hacker wrote “Hacked” on a pro-Israel web site run by some UCI students? Evidently, the author has asserted the web site is sponsored by Jewish students, as if interest in Israeli culture and current events resides only within a Jewish community. This author implies a non-sensical absurdity of non-Jewish support for Israel.

Marla, when a violent threat is posted by a hacker, and that threat is overtly expressed as hatred towards Jewish folks, then MAYBE it would be worth posting on the Register web site. As it stands, you seem to be a whiny nebbish looking for misplaced and undeserved sympathy.

Come back when your identity is stolen, or when “Anteaters for Israel” has information regarding state secrets. That is much more newsworthy.

Don’t bother updating this story. That would be annoying.

    Again, Marla, who cares?

For those wishing to view the site click below and avoid the main page and the article on “ifest-celebrate-israels-60th-birthday-presented-by-anteaters-for-israel”

Hope this helps and it is sad to see that people have so much time on their hands to do such actions on others.

Because this is just what they wanted - attention. And OCR played right into it.

Really goes to show who pulls the strings and who are the puppets.

Which claims to be “Turkish White Hackarz”

I wonder why that wasn’t reported. Becuase that might make it a race crime, too.
