Orange County Register staff writer Marla Jo FisherThe Michigan Supreme Court has rejected attempts by a Michigan teachers’ union to get home addresses and phone numbers of 16,000 employees in the University of Michigan system.

The court agreed with an earlier decision to turn over the names, job titles, amount of compensation, work addresses and phone numbers for every employee to the Michigan Federation of Teachers, under a request filed under the Freedom of Information Act.

However, reversing an earlier decision by the Court of Appeals, the high court said that home addresses and phone numbers of employees who had not previously agreed to put them in an employee directory were “of a personal nature” and an unwarranted invasion of privacy. representing information of an “embarrassing, intimate, private or confidential nature.”

Maybe someone should tell that to the telemarketers who call me every night, even though I’m on the “Do not call” list.
