Gee, maybe they could have built an airport at El Toro, after all, and nobody would have cared.
A UCI engineering professor says he knows how to make jet engines much more quiet–an invention that could bring a blissful expression to the faces of everyone who lives or works within earshot of an airport. Prof. Dimitri Papamoschou has applied for a patent for his jet engine silencer, that works by splitting the airflow from a jet engine and propelling the noisiest part upward, away from earth.
The tests have been conducted at UCI’s Jet Aeroacoustic Facility, where small-scale jets simulate the conditions of fullsize engines.
